Tips  for planning your wedding destination

Do you dream of getting married abroad, more mainly in France? The advantage of a wedding destination is that you have the feeling of spending a holiday with your loved ones. It is an unique and memorable experience for you and for you guests. Once you have decided on your ideal overseas wedding destination, the next step is to determine how to plan a wedding miles away from home. Organizing a wedding abroad means that you are ready for a more intimate ceremony.

To guide you, I would like to share with you some tips that will help you plan your wedding abroad.

1. Hire a wedding planner

Make sure you find a specialized coordinator. It’s important to find someone you trust completely. A wedding is about 400 hours of work, hiring a planner will make planning easier, there will be no language barrier, no scheduling problems to contact providers, or even a last minute visit to the venue, you have an expert at your disposal to take care of everything for you. Your organizer will oversee the entire wedding and can help you find local providers.

2. Plan on time

In France, some wedding venues are full 12 months or more in advance. Make sure you book your wedding venue on time to get the choice of your dream venue.

3. Budget your suppliers

If you decide to bring in specialists from your home, expect to cover their travel and accommodation costs. Negotiate these expenses in advance so that things don’t get out of hand.

4. Think local

Cut your decorating budget by incorporating local flowers and serve local food  at the reception.

5. Notify guests in advance

As the wedding will be abroad, it is important to give your loved ones enough time to anticipate travel costs to get to your ceremony and reception.

6. Consider your guests

It is important to think about your guests who come from far away and to provide them with a list of accommodation with reasonable prices.

To make the experience easier for your guests, create a personal wedding website that will answer the most common questions about accommodation, how to get there, costs, flights, what to do, and more.

7. Travel before your guests

Plan to arrive at least a week in advance. This way, you have time to prepare the final details and meet your wedding planner.

8. Tailor your wedding dress to the destination

Depending on your chosen destination and the period, you have to think about the fabrics. Breathable fabrics work best in hot, humid places. A thicker fabric like taffeta or crepe will be perfect for cooler weather.

9. Travel with your dress

Always have your dress on board the plane with you, even if it means folding it up. Just make sure you have a steamer at your destination.
